(Hamilton,Oh) Hamilton Deputy Chief Jeff Shaw reports a 71-year-old Hamilton woman was cooking dinner in her Washington Blvd. apartment when she noticed a strong smell of smoke coming from another part of her home. When she looked down the hall toward a bedroom, she saw flames. The woman escaped suffering from burning hair and smoke inhalation. She alerted neighbors to call 911 and evacuate as she fled the building. Paramedics took the woman to Fort Hamilton Hospital. An adjacent apartment also was damaged displacing the woman's neighbor, who is being help by the Red Cross. A firefighter also suffered a knee injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage is estimated at $130,000.
