Richmond, VA (1140wrva.com) – Former First Lady Maureen McDonnell told the former Executive Mansion Director, after an interview with investigators, that she was being "set up." The testimony came from Sarah Scarbrough, who also told jurors the McDonnells appeared to have a good relationship. In fact, she testified she told one person the former Governor "worshipped the ground Mrs. McDonnell walked on."
The testimony pokes some holes in the McDonnells' defense claims, that their relationship was rocky, and therefore, no conspiracy could have taken place. Scarbrough did say, however, that the first lady appeared sad, and that the Governor was "in denial about" Mrs. McDonnell's mental capacity.
The former first couple face 14 counts related to the gift-giving scandal.
