Richmond, VA _ Short Pump Town Center will hold an exercise on Sun., July 27, from 7 to 11 a.m., before the mall opens for business, in coordination with the Henrico County Police and Fire Divisions and U.S. Homeland Security as part of the mall’s ongoing emphasis on safety and emergency preparedness for their guests, customers and employees.
The training exercise will take place on the lower level of the mall near Macy’s department store and will involve up to 200 participants carrying out a mock exercise of an active shooter on-site.
During the training, certain areas inside the mall will be restricted to prevent customers from being in the immediate area of the training. Patrons will see informational signs throughout the mall about the exercise.
“Safety is a priority for Short Pump Town Center and we are continually reviewing and improving our training programs. Unfortunately, active shooters have become a fact of life and these situations are no longer ‘unthinkable,’ particularly for those responsible for spaces where people congregate, such as schools, churches and shopping centers,” said Kem Blue, vice president and general manager of Short Pump Town Center.
The training exercise will incorporate multiple scenarios designed to test both the mall’s and police and fire divisions’ emergency response and coordination.
