(Wallops Island, Virginia/ Newsradio 1140 WRVA) The NTSB is investigating the crash of a small plane off the Virginia coast. The Sirrus SR22 single engine plane was enroute from Wisconsin to Manassas when air traffic control lost contact for 90 minutes with the pilot.
The Coast Guard sent a cutter from Virginia Beach and aircraft from Elizabeth City to search for the plane which flew into restricted air space near Washington D.C.
Two F-16 fighter jets approached the plane to investigate and spotted the pilot unconscious in the cockpit. The jets continued to escort the plane over Virginia's Eastern Shore until it ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean about 50 miles east of Wallops Island.
